Frequently asked questions
What is a searchable PDF?
It's the same PDF with an invisible text layer over the image. You can search (Ctrl+F), select, and copy text without changing how the document looks.
How accurate is the text recognition?
Accuracy is usually over 95% for printed documents with good lighting. Handwriting, angled photos, and shadows can lower accuracy—take photos straight on in good light.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Text recognition runs entirely in your browser using Tesseract in WebAssembly. It's ideal for personal and confidential documents.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: your file is read and processed on your device, and not a single byte is sent over the internet. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
