About this tool
Which error correction level should you choose?
Error correction lets a code scan even if part of it is dirty, crumpled, or covered. The four levels are defined by the ISO/IEC 18004 standard:
| Level | Can recover up to | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Low (L) | ~7% of the code | Screens and long links (creates the least dense code) |
| Medium (M) | ~15% | Default for most uses |
| Quartile (Q) | ~25% | Stickers, packaging, and outdoor areas |
| High (H) | ~30% | Surfaces that wear down or very small codes |
The higher the level, the more "squares" the code contains. With long links, a high level can make the QR code too dense for basic cameras—shorten the link or use a lower level.
Checklist before printing
- Contrast: Use dark modules on a light background. Inverted colors (light on dark) or similar shades can fail with many scanners.
- White margin: Leave clear space around the code. Placing it next to text or edges can make it harder to scan.
- Size: The farther away people will be, the larger the code needs to be. For posters, test it from the actual viewing distance.
- SVG for printing: Vector images stay sharp when enlarged; a small PNG will look blurry when enlarged.
Wi-Fi and payment QR codes
In Wi-Fi mode, the code stores the network name, security type, and password, so anyone who scans it can connect without typing. Keep in mind that anyone who takes a photo of the code can extract the password—for visitors, use a separate network. To accept payments, use the payment QR code generator, which creates a code in the required format.
Frequently asked questions
Do QR codes expire?
No. Our QR codes are static: the content is stored right in the code, with no server redirects. They work indefinitely.
Can I change the link after printing the QR code?
No. The link is stored in the code itself (a static QR code). If you need to change the destination later, point the QR code to a page you control and update that page's content, or use a dynamic QR code service.
Why won't my QR code scan?
Common causes include low contrast, inverted colors, no white margin, printing that's too small, or a code that's too dense because of a long link. Download it again with a white background and test it with more than one phone.
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
