How to use: Microphone test

  1. Click Test microphone and allow access.
  2. Speak and watch the level meter and waveform. Choose a different device from the list if needed.
  3. Click Record 5 seconds and listen to check how your voice sounds.

About this tool

The meter shows the level in dBFS without your browser's automatic filters, so you can see the microphone's raw signal. Normal speech is between −30 and −6 dB; levels near 0 dB may distort.

If your browser blocks access, we'll explain how to allow microphone access. If another app is using your microphone (Zoom, Teams, Meet), close it and try again.

Frequently asked questions

Does the test record or upload my voice?

The 5-second recording stays in your browser's memory so you can listen to it, then it's discarded when you leave the page. Nothing is uploaded.

The level meter isn't moving. What should I do?

Make sure the correct microphone is selected from the list, it isn't muted (on the device or in your system settings), and your system's input volume isn't turned all the way down.

How do I unblock my microphone?

Click the lock icon next to the website address, allow microphone access, and reload the page. On your phone, also check the browser's permissions in your device settings.

Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?

It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
