  1. Paste your JSON into the box or drop in a .json file.

About this tool

Common JSON errors

  • Trailing commas after the last item: {"a": 1,} is invalid JSON (it works in JavaScript, but not in JSON).
  • Single quotes: keys and strings must use double quotes — {'a': 1} is invalid.
  • Unquoted keys: {a: 1} is a JavaScript object, not JSON.
  • Comments (// or /* */) aren’t allowed in standard JSON.
  • Numbers with leading zeros (012) and NaN/Infinity aren’t valid JSON values.

Format or minify?

Formatted JSON (with 2- or 4-space indentation) is easier to read, review, and version. Minified JSON removes spaces and line breaks to reduce file size for API responses and configuration files sent over a network—the content stays exactly the same.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON sent to a server?

No. Validation and formatting use your browser’s built-in JSON.parse. Your data—including tokens, API responses, and customer information—never leaves your computer.

What’s the difference between JSON and a JavaScript object?

JSON is a stricter text format: keys and strings must use double quotes, and trailing commas, comments, functions, and undefined aren’t allowed. All valid JSON is valid JavaScript, but not all JavaScript is valid JSON.

Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
