About this tool
EAN-13 is used for retail products, while EAN-8 is a shorter version for small packages. Both end with a check digit calculated using the GS1 modulo 10 algorithm (weights 3 and 1). Code 128 encodes letters, numbers, and symbols and is widely used on logistics labels; the tool automatically switches to the compact numeric subset when it detects sequences of digits. ITF (Interleaved 2 of 5) is the standard for 44-digit payment codes and cartons (ITF-14).
Keep in mind: generating an image does not register the number. To sell products in stores, the EAN must be licensed through GS1, which ensures the code is unique. For internal use (inventory, assets, and labels), Code 128 is the most flexible choice.
Everything is generated in your browser, with no external libraries, and the SVG file can be scaled without losing quality. When printing, leave a clear area (white margin) around the bars and test the barcode with a scanner before printing a large batch.
Frequently asked questions
Can I create an EAN-13 barcode for my product?
You can generate an image for any valid number, but to sell products in stores and marketplaces, the code must be licensed through GS1, which assigns your company a unique number range.
How is the EAN-13 check digit calculated?
Multiply the first 12 digits alternately by 1 and 3, from left to right, then add the results. The check digit is the amount needed to reach the next multiple of 10. For 789123456789, the sum is 135, so the check digit is 5.
Which type should I use for inventory labels?
Code 128 accepts letters and numbers, is compact, and works with any barcode scanner. EAN is reserved for products with a GS1 code.
Can I generate a barcode for a payment slip?
Yes. Select ITF and paste the payment slip's digit line or 44-digit code. The tool checks the check digits before generating the barcode.
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
