About this tool
Choose a layout
- Diagonal, centered: the classic "CONFIDENTIAL" running from corner to corner. Easy to see without hiding the content.
- Horizontal, centered: more subtle, and a good fit for "DRAFT" or "SAMPLE."
- Repeated tile: the text repeats at an angle across the entire page. This makes it harder to crop a section of the document without the watermark—ideal for copies of ID cards, driver's licenses, and proof of address.
An opacity of 15% to 30% usually keeps the document text readable. Higher opacity can make it harder to read, especially with a tiled layout.
Protect copies of personal documents
When sharing a copy of an ID with a property manager, store, or service, use the watermark to state who it's for and what it's for, along with the date: "Copy for rental application — Property Manager X — 10/2026." Watermark limitations
The watermark is added as text over the PDF pages. It can discourage misuse, but it isn't a technical security measure: someone with a PDF editor may be able to remove it. To prevent the PDF from being opened without a password, use Protect PDF. The font supports accented letters and cedillas; emojis and symbols outside the Latin alphabet are omitted.
