What's the ideal image size for a favicon?

Use a square image that's at least 512 × 512 px. Detailed logos can be hard to recognize at 16 px, so use just the symbol or brand initial with good contrast.

Do I need all the files?

The favicon.ico file works in all browsers on its own. PNGs and the site.webmanifest improve how your site looks when someone saves it to their iPhone or Android home screen.

Are my files uploaded to a server?
