Frequently asked questions

When should you use an image in Base64?

For small icons and images (up to about 10 KB) in HTML emails, CSS, or JSON, to avoid an extra request. For photos, use the original file: Base64 is about 33% larger and isn't cached separately.

How do you convert Base64 back to an image?

Paste the complete data URI (starting with data:image/) into your browser's address bar. The image will appear, and you can save it by right-clicking. For other Base64 text, use the Base64 encoder and decoder.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: your file is read and processed on your device, and not a single byte is sent over the internet. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?

It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
