About this tool

When to use find and replace

It works like Word’s Ctrl+H, right in your browser and with any text. Replace a client’s name in a contract template, fix a repeated typo, standardize terms like “USD” and “dollars,” or remove a phrase that appears on every line.

  • Whole words prevents replacing “art” inside “artist” or “act” inside “action”—and works with accented characters.
  • Interpret \n and \t lets you add line breaks or tabs in the replacement, for example, to split a semicolon-separated list into separate lines.
  • Use result as input lets you chain multiple replacements.

Replace text with regular expressions

In regular expression mode, the Find field accepts patterns like \d{3}\.\d{3}\.\d{3}-\d{2}, and the replacement field accepts $1 and $2 to reuse matched groups. For example, convert dates from (\d{2})/(\d{2})/(\d{4}) to $3-$2-$1. The expression runs in isolation with a time limit, so a poorly written pattern won’t freeze the page.

To build and test your pattern first, use the regex tester. All processing happens in your browser—your text is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I replace a word throughout a text?

Paste your text, enter the word under Find, and enter the replacement under Replace with. All matches are replaced instantly, and the counter shows how many. Select Whole words only to avoid changing words that contain your search term.

Can I replace text with a line break?

Yes. Select Interpret \n and \t in replacement, then type \n where you want the line break. For example, find ; and replace it with \n to turn a semicolon-separated list into one item per line.

Does the $ character in the replacement turn into something else?

In normal mode, no—the $ is treated as regular text, so R$ 10 stays R$ 10. In regular expression mode, $1, $2, and $& represent matched groups. To enter a literal dollar sign in this mode, use $$.

Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?

It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
