About this tool

What each setting does

  • Strength: how much edge contrast increases. Use 50% to 120% for photos; above 150%, bright halos may appear around edges.
  • Radius: the width of the area treated as an edge. 1 works well for phone photos; large or enlarged images may need 2 or 3.
  • Threshold: the minimum difference needed to sharpen a pixel. Set it to 5 to 10 to protect skin and skies from grain.

A good workflow is to resize the image first, then sharpen it last at its final size. This technique, called an unsharp mask, is also used in professional editors: the image is compared with a blurred version of itself, and the differences are amplified.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fix a very blurry photo?

No. The unsharp mask enhances existing edges. It can improve slightly soft photos, enlarged images, or images that lost definition when resized, but it can't recreate details in a shaky or out-of-focus photo.

Why is the preview a crop instead of the whole photo?

Sharpness can only be evaluated at full size (100%). When scaled down to fit the screen, the photo hides the very details the filter changes. That's why we show a side-by-side before-and-after crop.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser: your file is read and processed on your device, and not a single byte is sent over the internet. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?

It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
