About this tool
Why the time difference changes
The time difference between two places stays the same only when neither observes daylight saving time. When one or both places change their clocks, the difference can shift twice a year. The exact dates and amount depend on each location’s daylight saving rules.
- Southern Hemisphere: Chile, parts of Australia, and New Zealand move their clocks forward between September and April—the opposite season from Europe.
- Half-hour and quarter-hour offsets: India (UTC+5:30), Iran (UTC+3:30), Afghanistan (UTC+4:30), and Nepal (UTC+5:45) have non-hour time differences.
- Different change dates: The US and Europe change their clocks on different weekends, so the time difference between them can be unusual for a week or two.
Where the dates come from
Your browser calculates clock change dates using the IANA time zone database—the same database used by your phone—for the next 12 months. When a country changes its rules, the database is updated along with your browser or operating system.
To convert a specific time, use the time zone converter. The current time page shows the local time and time difference for 150 locations.
