URL Encode and Decode
Encode and decode URLs and parameters (%20, %C3%A7), and inspect each part of a URL.

How to use: URL Encode and Decode
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Paste text, a parameter, or a URL.
- Copy the result. If it's a URL, check its decoded parameters in the table.
About this tool
To encode a parameter value (such as a search term), use snippet mode, which also escapes &, =, and ?. For a full URL, use full URL mode, which preserves the structure (://, /, ?, &).
When decoding, HTML forms send spaces as +. Leave this option checked to convert them.
Quick reference: encoded characters
| Character | Encoded | Character | Encoded |
|---|---|---|---|
| space | %20 (or + in forms) | & | %26 |
| ç | %C3%A7 | = | %3D |
| ã | %C3%A3 | ? | %3F |
| é | %C3%A9 | # | %23 |
| / | %2F | + | %2B |
Common mistakes that break links
- Double encoding:
%becomes%25, so "%20" turns into "%2520". If you see %25 followed by two digits, decode it once before using it. - Leaving & in a value: in
?company=Smith&Sons, the server treats "Sons" as a new parameter. Encode only the value:Smith%26Sons. - Confusing + with a space: in forms, + means a space; in a phone number like "+1212…" inside a parameter, it needs to be encoded as %2B.
- UTM and campaign links: Encode campaign names with spaces and accented characters so they don’t get cut off in emails and social media.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?
encodeURIComponent encodes characters with special meaning in a URL (/, ?, &, =, #)—use it for values. encodeURI leaves these characters unchanged—use it for a complete URL.
Why does %C3%A7 appear instead of ç?
In a URL, non-ASCII characters are represented as hexadecimal UTF-8 bytes. The character ç takes two bytes: C3 and A7.
What does %20 mean in a link?
That’s the encoded space: 20 is the hexadecimal code for the space character in the ASCII table. URLs can’t contain spaces, so they’re written as %20 (or + in form data).
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
