Images to PDF
Combine JPG, PNG, WEBP, or HEIC photos into a single PDF.
Quick answer
On Android, there are three ways to do this without installing a new app: use the built-in Print › Save as PDF command, the Google Drive scanner to capture paper documents, or your browser to combine multiple photos into a PDF with your preferred order and page size.
Menu names may vary slightly across brands (Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi) and Android versions, but the steps are basically the same on all of them.
Method 1: Print › Save as PDF
Android has a virtual printer that saves files as PDFs instead of printing them. It works in any app with a print option.
- Open the photo in Google Photos (or your device’s gallery).
- Tap the three-dot menu and look for Print. In some gallery apps, it’s under Share.
- At the top of the print screen, tap the printer name and choose Save as PDF.
- Set the paper size (A4) and orientation, then tap the round PDF button.
- Choose a folder (such as Downloads) and tap Save.
One limitation: most gallery apps create one PDF per photo. To combine multiple pages into a single file, use method 3.
Method 2: Scan with Google Drive (for paper documents)
The Google Drive app comes preinstalled on many Android devices and includes a scanner that crops the edges and saves your document as a PDF:
- Open Drive, tap the + (New) button, and choose Scan (the camera icon).
- Take a photo of the page. The app detects the edges; adjust the corners if needed.
- Tap + to add more pages to the same document.
- Tap Save, enter a name, and choose a folder. The PDF is saved to Drive. To save it to your device, open it and tap Download.
Some brands include a scanner in the camera or file manager app. If your device has one, it works in much the same way.
Method 3: Combine multiple photos into one PDF in your browser
- Open Images to PDF in Chrome.
- Tap Choose files. In the file picker, choose your gallery or the Camera folder, then select all the photos.
- Drag the tiles into the right order, choose a page size and margin, then tap Convert to PDF.
- Download the file. It will be saved in your Downloads folder.
If all your photos are JPG (the default format for Android cameras), the JPG to PDF page does the same thing. For photos of paper documents taken at an angle or with shadows, clean them up first with the Document Scanner. It straightens the page using its four corners and whitens the background, which also reduces the PDF file size.
Which method should you choose?
- One photo, fast: Print › Save as PDF.
- Multi-page paper document: Google Drive scanner or Document Scanner.
- Multiple photos you’ve already taken, in a specific order: Use Images to PDF in your browser.
- PDF for an agency or legal case: Any method works, but check the final file size. If it’s too large, see how to reduce a PDF file size.
Before converting: take a good photo
Your PDF can only look as good as the photo you start with. A few simple steps can help prevent documents from being rejected because they’re hard to read:
- Place the paper on a flat surface with a contrasting color (for example, a white page on a dark table).
- Use natural side lighting and turn off the flash, which can create a bright glare in the middle of the page.
- Hold your phone parallel to the paper without tilting it, and capture the entire page with a little space around the edges.
- Tap the text on your screen to focus, then wait for the image to stabilize before taking the photo.
- Clean your camera lens. Fingerprints can make the image look blurry.
Before sending the PDF, open it and zoom in on small details, such as ID numbers and dates. If you can read them easily, the person receiving it should be able to, too.
Frequently asked questions
Where are saved PDFs stored on Android?
Look in the folder you selected when saving, usually Downloads. Open the Files app (or My Files on Samsung) and check Downloads or Recent.
Can’t find the Save as PDF option? Try this
Tap the printer name at the top of the print screen to see the full list. If it’s still missing, the print service may be turned off. Check Settings › Connected devices › Printing. The steps vary by brand.
Does converting a photo to PDF reduce its quality?
When you use your browser, images are added to the PDF at their original resolution. With the print option, the result depends on the paper size you choose, but the difference is usually unnoticeable for documents.
Can I edit text in a PDF created from a photo?
Not directly, because the page is an image. You can use OCR to recognize the text, then copy it or convert it to Word.
