Transcribe WhatsApp audio
Read that long WhatsApp voice message as text—without listening to it or sending it to anyone.
Step 1: Save the audio from WhatsApp
WhatsApp voice messages are .opus or .ogg files. To transcribe one, you first need to export it:
- Android: Touch and hold the audio in the chat, then tap the Share icon (or the three dots › Share). Choose to save it to Files or Drive—or, if you’ve installed Rotina Diária as an app through your browser, select it directly from the list.
- iPhone: Touch and hold the audio, choose Forward, then tap the share icon in the lower-right corner (not the forward arrow). Next, choose Save to Files.
You can select multiple audio files from this same menu and transcribe them all at once.
Step 2: Transcribe in your browser
- Open WhatsApp Audio Transcription and select the saved file.
- Set accuracy to Balanced and the language to Portuguese.
- Tap Transcribe audio. The first time, your browser downloads the speech recognition model (about 80 MB with the Balanced option), so use Wi-Fi. After that, it’s already saved.
- Read, copy, or download the text.
If the audio is from a video or a meeting recording, use Transcribe audio to text, which also supports videos and creates .srt subtitles.
Privacy: why it matters for conversations
WhatsApp audio often contains personal information, such as addresses, amounts, health issues, and family matters. Many transcription sites upload your file to a server. Here, transcription is handled by the Whisper model running in your browser: only the model is downloaded; your audio never leaves your device.
Still, the text comes from someone else’s conversation, so think before forwarding or publishing it.
Tips for better transcription
- Long audio on your phone: choose Fast accuracy. On less powerful devices, transcription may take longer than the audio itself.
- Names and slang are the most common sources of errors. Review the text before using it for anything important.
- Background noise (traffic, music, wind) can significantly reduce accuracy.
- Audio in another language: switch the spoken language to English or Spanish before transcribing.
- Just want to play the audio on another device or player? Convert it to MP3 with OGG to MP3.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, using Safari. Transcription is slower on older iPhones, so choose Fast accuracy for long audio.
Doesn’t WhatsApp transcribe audio?
WhatsApp offers voice message transcription on some devices and versions. If the option isn’t available, doesn’t recognize Portuguese well, or you need the text as a file, this tool can help.
Is my audio saved on the site?
No. Your file is processed in your browser’s memory and discarded when you close the page. Nothing is sent to our server.
