About this tool
Color wheel harmonies
- Analogous: Colors next to each other on the wheel (±30° and ±60°). A calm, natural combination that works well for backgrounds and soft visual identities.
- Complementary: The opposite color (180°). Maximum contrast—use the complementary color for accents, such as buttons.
- Split complementary: The two colors next to the opposite color (150° and 210°). Strong contrast that's easier to balance.
- Triadic and tetradic: Three or four evenly spaced colors. These schemes are vibrant, so choose one dominant color and use the others in smaller areas.
- Monochromatic: The same color in lighter and darker shades. Elegant and a safe choice for interfaces.
How to use a palette in your project
A practical design guideline is 60-30-10: use the most neutral color for 60% of the space, a secondary color for 30%, and an accent color for 10%. Before placing text on a color, check readability with the color converter, which calculates WCAG contrast. To create a palette from a photo or logo, use extract colors from image.
Frequently asked questions
How do you choose colors that go together?
Start with a color that represents your project, then choose a color wheel harmony: analogous for a calm look, complementary for contrast, or monochromatic for a more understated feel. The generator automatically calculates the other four colors.
Can I use the generated colors in a logo or website?
Yes. Colors are just HEX codes and aren't copyrighted. Copy the codes into Canva, Figma, Photoshop, or your website's CSS using the ready-made variables.
What is a monochromatic palette?
A monochromatic palette uses one color in different shades, from nearly white to very dark. It keeps a consistent color identity and works well for interfaces, presentations, and branded materials.
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
