Convert YAML to JSON
Convert YAML (Docker Compose, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions) to formatted JSON, with errors pinpointed by line.
Processed on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How to use: Convert YAML to JSON
- Paste your YAML or open a
.yaml/.ymlfile. - Your JSON appears instantly. Choose an indentation level (2 or 4 spaces) or minified output.
- Copy or download the
.jsonfile. If there’s an error, the tool shows the exact line and column.
About this tool
YAML and JSON represent the same data—objects, lists, strings, numbers, and booleans—but YAML uses indentation instead of braces and brackets. That means one misplaced space can break the entire file. Here, errors include a snippet of the problem area and an arrow pointing to the column.
Files with multiple documents separated by --- (common in Kubernetes manifests) are converted into a JSON array. Anchors and aliases (&base, *base) and merge keys (<<) are resolved in the output.
Conversion follows the core YAML 1.2 schema: yes and on remain strings, not true, avoiding the infamous “Norway problem” (NO being treated as false). Everything runs in your browser—nothing you paste or type is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Are YAML comments included in the JSON?
No. JSON doesn’t support comments, so they’re removed during conversion.
Why am I seeing “bad indentation”?
YAML requires items at the same level to use exactly the same indentation, with spaces only—tabs aren’t allowed. Check the line shown and align it with the surrounding lines.
Can I convert files that contain secrets, settings, or passwords?
Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, and your content never leaves your device.
Is it really free? Is there a daily limit?
It's free with no daily limits. Processing happens on your device, so there's no per-use cost and no need to limit you.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Linux—no installation needed.
