How to use: List to Comma-Separated Text

  1. Choose a direction: list → comma-separated or the other way around.
  2. Paste your list (an Excel column works) and choose the delimiter, quotes, and whether to remove duplicates.
  3. Copy the result, or use Reverse direction to switch back to the original format.

About this tool

Common uses

  • Email: Paste a spreadsheet column of email addresses to create a comma- or semicolon-separated list for the "To" or "Bcc" field.
  • SQL: With single quotes, the list becomes 'a','b','c', ready for a WHERE id IN (...) clause. Apostrophes inside an item are doubled, as SQL requires.
  • Text: The "and" option before the last item creates "apples, pears, and grapes," following standard US English usage.

From separated text to a list

In the reverse direction, text like "a", "b", "c" becomes one item per line, ready to paste into an Excel or Google Sheets column. You can remove the quotes around items, and empty items (",,") are ignored.

To split by another character—such as a vertical bar, hyphen, or tab—choose Other… as the delimiter. To sort or clean up your list first, use sort lines and remove duplicate lines.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an Excel column to a comma-separated list?

Copy the column cells, paste them here with the List to comma-separated direction selected, and copy the result. Each cell becomes an item; blank cells are ignored.

How do I generate a list for a SQL WHERE IN clause?

Choose Comma as the delimiter and Single quotes. The result will look like 'item1','item2'. Apostrophes inside an item are doubled so they don't break the query.

Can I split comma-separated text into one item per line?

Yes. Choose the Comma-separated to list direction. Each part becomes a line, with leading and trailing spaces removed. You can also remove quotes and duplicate items.
