PDF to Excel
Convert PDF tables—such as statements, reports, and invoices—to an Excel .xlsx spreadsheet or CSV, with numbers and dates ready to calculate.
Step by step
- Open PDF to Excel on your computer or phone.
- Select your PDF. It’s processed in your browser—your bank statement isn’t uploaded to any server.
- Choose one sheet per page (best for long reports) or everything on one sheet (best for statements that continue across pages).
- To convert only certain pages, enter them (e.g.,
2-4). It’s faster, and your spreadsheet won’t include the cover page or footers. - Click Convert to Excel, check the preview, and download the
.xlsxfile.
Why the values are ready to sum
One of the most common problems when copying a PDF table into Excel is that numbers turn into text. For example, "1,234.56" gets left-aligned, and the sum returns zero. During conversion, each cell is interpreted using the US number format:
- Values such as
1,234.56,$-10.00,(5.00), or35.90-are converted to numbers (and to negatives when indicated); - Dates in
mm/dd/yyyyformat are converted to Excel dates, so you can filter by month; - Percentages are converted to percentages;
- Codes with leading zeros (such as account or document numbers) stay as text, so the zeros aren’t lost.
When it doesn’t work (and what to do)
- Scanned PDF or photo of a statement: There’s no text to read. Run it through PDF OCR first, then convert the result.
- Password-protected PDF (common with credit card statements): use Unlock PDF with the password first.
- Descriptions that wrap onto two lines in the same cell will appear on two lines in the spreadsheet; join them in Excel if needed.
- Columns that are too close together may run into each other. Check the preview before downloading.
Tip: Use CSV to import into other systems
If you’re sending the spreadsheet to an accounting system, budgeting tool, or accountant, choose CSV. The file uses commas as separators, the standard format for US Excel, and keeps the values exactly as they appear in the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert my bank statement safely?
Yes. The PDF is processed right in your browser, and no banking data is uploaded. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Does it work with credit card statements?
It works with bank-generated PDFs that contain selectable text. If you need a password to open the statement, unlock it first with your password.
Can I open the file directly in Excel?
Yes. The .xlsx file opens in Excel, LibreOffice Calc, and Google Sheets, with currency values rounded to two decimal places and dates in mm/dd/yyyy format.
